Singapore Cheap Eats

Alright, food fanatics gather 'round! Let me tell the epic tale of our culinary crusade through Singapore's Chinatown Hawkers Centre, a place where your taste buds get a standing ovation and your wallet barely takes a hit.

Mission: Dumpling Domination

I've been banging on about hitting up a hawker centre since we touched down. For the uninitiated (looking at you, Jae, Bec, and Tyren), these are sprawling markets teeming with street food that'll make you question every overpriced meal you've ever had.

I scored 10 succulent Xiao Long Bao for a mere S$6.50.

That's right, less than a buck per piece for these broth-filled beauties. Take that, fancy dim sum joints!

Noodle Nirvana

If dumplings aren’t your style, you can dive into a HUGE wonton noodle soup for just S$4. Imagine slurping up perfectly cooked noodles swimming alongside plump wontons in a savory broth. It's like a warm hug from a bowl.

Claypot Conquest

Feeling adventurous? You can try the legendary claypot rice. A sizzling pot filled with fragrant rice, tender chicken, Chinese sausage, and salted fish, all mingling to create a smoky, savoury symphony. Starting at S$8 for a small pot. Worth every damn cent.

Popiah Party

For a light yet flavour-packed snack, grab some popiah, fresh spring rolls stuffed with a medley of veggies, eggs, shrimp, and peanuts, all wrapped in a delicate, paper-thin skin. Each roll set us back just S$2.20.

Satay Soiree

We couldn't leave without indulging in some satay. Skewers of marinated meat grilled to perfection and served with a rich, nutty sauce. Prices typically start at S$0.70 per stick, making it easy to feast without fear.

Chinatown

Post-feast, we waddled through Chinatown, marveling at the vibrant architecture and soaking in the lively atmosphere. It's a sensory overload in the best possible way.

By day's end, we'd clocked in 12,000 steps. Not too shabby for a crew fueled by dumplings and determination.

Next Stop: Chiang Mai

As much as we adored Singapore, our wallets are on a diet. Activities here can be a tad pricey for us frugal adventurers.

Stay tuned for more escapades, and remember: life's too short for bad food and boring stories.
