Singapore’s Supertree Grove
We kicked off our day at the Supertree Grove in Singapore's iconic Gardens by the Bay.
Towering vertical gardens, some stretching up to 50 meters high, looking like they were plucked straight out of a sci-fi movie. These aren't just for show; they're eco-engineering marvels, decked out with exotic plants and even harnessing solar energy.
Access to the Supertree Grove is free (we love that), and it's open daily from 5 AM to 2 AM.
But if you're looking to elevate your experience (literally) you've got a couple of fun options:
OCBC Skyway
This 128-meter-long aerial walkway suspends you 22 meters above ground, weaving through the Supertrees. It's like walking on air with panoramic views that'll make your jaw drop. Tickets are priced at S$10 for adults and S$7 for children aged 3-12.
Supertree Observatory
Perched atop the tallest Supertree at 50 meters, this observatory offers 360-degree views of the Gardens and the Marina Bay area. It's the perfect spot for those panoramic selfies.
As the sun dipped, we planned to catch the Garden Rhapsody light and sound show from the OCBC Skyway. This free spectacle lights up the Supertrees twice nightly at 7:45 PM and 8:45 PM.
But, in true Tight Travellers fashion, our timing was off, and instead, we were treated to a breathtaking sunset from the bridge, turning our little scheduling snafu (I love this word!) into a happy accident.
We watched the show from the group, which I think was actually even better!
To top it off, the Singapore Air Force surprised us with a roaring air show, followed by a fireworks display that could rival any Sydney New Year's Eve celebration.
So, what's the moral of the story? Sometimes, even when plans go sideways, you end up with an adventure that's awesome.
