Sriwedari Silver Making, Ubud

So, you wanna be a jewellery artisan? A master of molten metal? A silver-slinging legend whose creations will be passed down through generations? Yeah, same.

But let’s be real, this was more like arts and crafts for adults with a mild obsession for shiny things.

Welcome to Sriwedari Silver Making in Ubud, where for the budget-friendly price of $45 AUD, you too can hammer, solder, and slightly panic your way to a custom-made silver ring.

No experience? No worries.

They provide all the tools, guidance, and moral support you need to transform a basic lump of silver into a wearable masterpiece… or, at the very least, something that won’t immediately fall apart.

I hit them up via Whatsapp and managed to book a same day session - fab! It’s located on the road Jl. Sriwedari… funny that! Not too far from the centre of Ubud, absolutely walkable if you’re getting dropped off in the chaos of one-way Ubud.

Meet the Dream Team of Amateur Silversmiths

Today’s lineup of hopeful jewellery designers:

💎 Me – Obviously the chaos instigator
💎 Bec – The perfectionist (did NOT appreciate my creative shortcuts).
💎 Lisa – Surprisingly good at this. Possibly a jeweller in a past life.
💎 Bronte – Here for the vibes and to make something she can keep.
💎 TJ – The one who somehow made the best ring. Classic.

The Process – Or, How We Didn't Burn Down the Workshop

Step 1: Pick a design – They had loads of options, or you could BYO design if you’re feeling bold. (Spoiler: We were not.)

Step 2: Burn, Baby, Burn! Time to melt down the silver into a very angry-looking liquid. This part felt suspiciously like we were summoning a dark spirit. The instructor assured us this was normal.

Step 3: Stretch it out! Once the silver cooled, we had to hammer and roll it out into a long, flat strip. This was oddly satisfying and also a great way to take out any lingering frustration from dodgy Wi-Fi or overpriced airport lattes.

Step 4: Shaping & Soldering – This is where you bend, twist, and solder your silver piece into an actual ring shape. Sounds easy, right? Wrong. Let’s just say tidak bagus (not good) was said A LOT.

Step 5: Hammer Time – We got to texture the rings and add some inscriptions, which involved hitting things with tiny hammers. Absolutely therapeutic. 10/10 would recommend for stress relief.

Step 6: Polishing & Finishing Touches – This is where the magic happens. Our rings went from "questionable" to "actually kinda decent." A Christmas miracle.

Final Verdict – Was It Worth It?

💰 $45 AUD for a couple of hours of silversmithing, fun banter, and a self-made ring that doubles as a travel souvenir? 100% worth it. I wear mine every day!

🛠️ Would I trust myself as a professional silversmith? Absolutely not.

😂 Funniest moment? Trying to learn some Indonesian… Tidak bagus!

So, if you’re in Ubud and looking for a unique, budget-friendly activity, grab your friends, head to Sriwedari Silver Making, and embrace your inner jewellery designer.

Just maybe don’t quit your day job yet.
